Our moving company is based in Edmonton AB. Edmonton is North America’s northernmost metropolitan area with a population over one million. Edmonton is at the centre of Canada’s sixth-largest census metropolitan area (CMA), which includes Edmonton and 34 other municipalities in the surrounding area. Larger urban communities include Sherwood Park (an urban service area within Strathcona County), the cities of St. Albert, Beaumont, Leduc, Spruce Grove and Fort Saskatchewan, and the towns of Stony Plain, Morinville, and Devon.
Edmonton is the major economic centre for northern and central Alberta and a major centre for the oil and gas industry. For many past years, people from all provinces were moving to Edmonton. The work opportunities were so great in Alberta that the moving industry was moving a lot of customers to Edmonton.
Unfortunately, right now we see the opposite trend in the Canadian moving industry. We receive a lot of requests for moves out of Edmonton. Most of them are moving back to their home town or moving where the economy is better. The favorite moving destination we see is the Toronto area.
Edmonton local moving
Real estate is changing fast right now with the COVID 19. Total residential unit sales in the Edmonton Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) real estate market for May 2020 decreased 41.51% compared to May 2019 and increased 54.27% from April 2020. The number of new residential listings is down year over year, decreasing 20.88% from May 2019.
Our moving company noted a significant decrease in business compared to last year due to the drop in house sales. Local moving is widely affected by this trend. There are around 150 moving companies trying to find a way to keep their business above water. With the loss of local moving jobs, many have increased their rates to cover their overhead costs. This is a tough time for the majority of business. The moving services are an essential service so we can continue serving clients with taking more precautions.
